2. SMTP rejected the preparatory step before the DATA command. This is a common specific trigger for a 503 error, usually caused by a missing or incorrect RCPT TO. Ensure that the $this->to you set is a valid, existing email address, not an empty array or incorrectly formatted. Add “” to the sending email address. The error no longer occurs. See Figure 2.
