After Moving Media, EN, and Admin Off EdgeOne, I Re-Estimated the Site’s Actual Monthly CDN Cost

Previously, my EdgeOne Personal Edition hosted multiple domains, including the main Chinese site, the English site, the media resource domain, and the WordPress admin domain.

The EdgeOne Personal Edition includes 50GB of security acceleration traffic and 3 million security acceleration requests per month. A few days after enabling the plan, I estimated the consumption rate at the time and found that 50GB of traffic was clearly insufficient to last a full month, making the subsequent purchase of add-on packages almost inevitable.

Therefore, instead of waiting until the plan’s traffic was completely exhausted, I began migrating three domains shortly after confirming that the Personal Edition quota was insufficient:

• Migrated media.shuijingwanwq.com out of EdgeOne;
• Migrated en.shuijingwanwq.com out of EdgeOne;
• Migrated admin.shuijingwanwq.com out of EdgeOne.

Now, only the main Chinese site www.shuijingwanwq.com remains in EdgeOne.

After completing the split, I purchased a 100GB security acceleration traffic package and a 10-million-request security acceleration package. Based on actual data from before and after the migration, this article estimates the actual costs for the current billing cycle, the next full billing cycle, and a hypothetical scenario where the three domains were not split.

This article only considers the Personal Edition plan and add-on packages, excluding pay-as-you-go plans.

1. Current Plan and Add-on Packages

I am currently using the EdgeOne Personal Edition plan:

• Plan price: 9.9 CNY;
• Monthly security acceleration traffic: 50GB;
• Monthly security acceleration requests: 3 million;
• Current validity period: July 6, 2026 to August 6, 2026.

As of July 17, 2026, the 50GB of traffic included in the Personal Edition has been completely used up.

I separately purchased two add-on packages with a 12-month validity period:

As of the screenshot time, the 100GB traffic package has used 2.99GB, and the request package has not yet started to be deducted.

This is because the 3 million requests included in the Personal Edition have not yet been exhausted. The request add-on package will only be consumed after the plan’s request quota is used up.

2. How This Article Calculates “Actual Cost”

Add-on packages are valid for 12 months, and unused quotas can continue to be used across months.

Therefore, the full amount paid when purchasing an add-on package cannot be counted entirely as the actual cost for the month of purchase. For example, although the 100GB traffic package costs 19.95 CNY, if only 36GB is used in a given month, the entire 19.95 CNY should not be charged to that month.

This article allocates costs based on the actually consumed add-on package quota.

This calculation method is not affected by the specific day the add-on package is purchased, nor does it inflate the true resource cost for a month simply because multiple add-on packages were purchased together in that month.

3. Traffic Levels After Splitting the Three Domains

After migrating media, en, and admin out of EdgeOne, the data for the last 6 hours is as follows:

This set of data will serve as the basis for estimating the monthly cost after the split is completed.

4. Estimated Resource Consumption for the Current Billing Cycle

Note that the current cycle is a transition cycle:

• During the first half of the cycle, media, en, and admin still had some traffic going through EdgeOne;
• During the second half of the cycle, only the www domain remains;
• Therefore, the actual cost for the current cycle will be higher than the stable monthly cost after the split is completed.

It can be seen that the impact of this split on traffic is far greater than on the number of requests.

This also aligns with the actual situation:

• media primarily hosts static resources like images, making it a major source of traffic consumption;
• en handles page visits for the English site;
• admin accounts for a relatively small proportion of traffic, but splitting it out prevents backend operations from continuing to consume EdgeOne resources for www.

10. Why I Still Chose Add-on Packages

Although the Personal Edition only includes 50GB of traffic and 3 million requests per month, add-on packages have several distinct advantages:

• 12-month validity period;
• Unused quotas can continue to be used across months;
• Traffic and request packages can be consumed gradually based on actual usage;
• No need to immediately upgrade to a more expensive plan due to short-term fluctuations in a given month;
• Actual costs can be allocated proportionally based on usage.

Calculated using the post-split data:

• Approximately 35.94GB of the traffic package is consumed per month;
• Approximately 1.5136 million requests from the request package are consumed per month;
• The 100GB traffic package can cover approximately 2.78 months of additional traffic;
• The 10-million-request package can cover approximately 6.61 months of additional requests.

Therefore, for the current website traffic scale, continuing to use the Personal Edition supplemented with traffic and request packages better suits my actual needs than a direct upgrade.

11. Final Conclusion

The current billing cycle is a transition cycle during the domain split process, and the estimated actual cost is approximately:

26.2 CNY

Starting from the next full cycle, the estimated monthly actual cost after keeping only the www domain is:

This adjustment was not made only after the 50GB plan traffic was completely exhausted. Instead, a few days into the plan, I proactively judged based on the consumption rate that the Personal Edition could not support an entire month, and thus began gradually splitting the domains.

Looking at the final data, this judgment was correct.

After splitting the media resources, the English site, and the WordPress admin, EdgeOne can focus more on providing acceleration for the main Chinese site. For my current website scale, continuing to use the Personal Edition and supplementing the quota with traffic and request packages valid for one year is a more suitable cost-control strategy at this stage.
