How Wide Is the Search Performance Gap for the Same A Tour of Go Website Across Bing, Google, and Baidu?

Recently, I reviewed the performance of the “A Tour of Go” website I maintain across three search engines: Bing, Google, and Baidu.

The website URL is https://go-dev.shuijingwanwq.com/. For this Go language learning site, which is still under construction, I care not only about whether the pages load properly and whether search engines have indexed them, but also about a more practical question: when someone searches for “go 语言之旅” (A Tour of Go), can they actually find my site?

The results of this comparison are quite clear: Bing performed the best, Google came second, and Baidu was the least satisfactory. Bing and Google not only indexed a fair number of pages and generated actual clicks, but when I searched for “go 语言之旅”, both search engines’ AI overviews cited my website, and the regular search results appeared on the first page. In contrast, although Baidu shows an index count of 84, it only registered 3 impressions and 0 clicks over a fairly long statistical period. I also manually went through the first 20 pages of Baidu’s search results for the same keyword and did not find my site.

Below is a record of the process and results of this review.

1. Bing: Indexed pages and actually driving traffic

Looking first at Bing Webmaster Tools, its sitemap report shows that 103 URLs have been indexed, and another 2 URLs need attention. These 2 URLs are categorized as “Discovered but not indexed” and “Alternate page with proper canonical tag” respectively. Based on this report, the vast majority of submitted URLs have entered Bing’s index.

Next, looking at search performance. Over the past 3 months, Bing recorded 393 impressions, 33 clicks, and an average click-through rate (CTR) of 8.4%. The total volume isn’t large yet, but it at least proves that the pages aren’t just in an “indexed” state; they are actually starting to receive traffic from search results.

In the keyword report, “go 语言之旅” stands out in particular: 69 impressions, 23 clicks, and an average position of 2.74. This keyword contributed a significant portion of the clicks, indicating that a connection has been established between the site’s content and search demand.

I also directly searched for “go 语言之旅”. Bing’s AI overview listed my website as a reference source and provided an entry point to the Chinese version.

More importantly, in the regular web search for “go 语言之旅”, my website appeared on the first page of Bing’s search results. This means that in addition to being cited in the AI overview, the site itself also has a normal search result entry. This is more convincing than merely seeing indexing numbers in the backend: users don’t need to rely on the AI overview to have a chance to find it directly.

2. Google: Good indexing, but search clicks remain low

The page indexing report in Google Search Console shows that 96 pages are indexed, and 9 are not yet indexed. The chart shows that the number of indexed pages previously experienced significant growth.

[Figure 6: Google page indexing report — 96 indexed, 9 not indexed]
[Figure 6: Google page indexing report — 96 indexed, 9 not indexed]

In the search performance over the last 3 months, Google recorded 153 impressions, 9 clicks, an average CTR of 5.9%, and an average position of 10.8. Compared to Bing’s data, the search impressions and clicks are noticeably fewer. However, Google has still generated real clicks, rather than showing no activity at all.

When actually searching for “go 语言之旅”, I also saw a citation for the site’s course directory page in Google’s AI overview.

Just like Bing, in the regular Google web search for “go 语言之旅”, “课程目录 — Go 语言之旅” (Course Directory — A Tour of Go) also appeared on the first page. This means my website was not only cited by Google’s AI overview but also had an independent regular search result. Although the clicks recorded in Search Console are temporarily fewer than those from Bing, the site already has relatively intuitive search visibility for this key keyword.

Of course, the ranking shown in the screenshot here is the result I saw at that time, under the search environment I was using, and should not be taken as a fixed ranking that all regions and users will see.

3. Baidu: Index count reaches 84, but search traffic is almost non-existent

Finally, looking at Baidu. Its performance is the most confusing and disappointing part of this review.

Baidu Search Resource Platform shows that as of October 25, 2026, the site’s index count is 84. Among this, the record for October 23 increased from the previous 32 to 84, a single increase of 52. In other words, Baidu is not completely ignoring this site; in fact, the index count has grown significantly recently.

[Figure 10: Baidu index count report — increased by 52 on October 23, reaching an index count of 84]
[Figure 10: Baidu index count report — increased by 52 on October 23, reaching an index count of 84]

I previously looked at the “Traffic and Keywords” report for the last 30 days, and both clicks and impressions for PC search were 0. To avoid misjudging due to a time window that was too short, I extended the date range to August 27, 2026, to October 26, 2026.

This time it was no longer 0 impressions, but the results were still very low: 3 impressions, 0 clicks. For nearly two months of PC search data, the impressions were only in the single digits.

[Figure 11: Baidu custom date search data — August 27, 2026, to October 26, 2026, 3 impressions, 0 clicks]
[Figure 11: Baidu custom date search data — August 27, 2026, to October 26, 2026, 3 impressions, 0 clicks]

Looking at the corresponding trend chart, the few impressions were concentrated at the beginning of the statistical period, and the rest is basically a flat line close to zero. It is necessary to clarify here: it is not that “Baidu had zero impressions over three months,” but rather that within this custom period of about two months, there were only 3 impressions and 0 clicks; the data for the last 30 days shows 0 impressions and 0 clicks.

[Figure 12: Baidu search impression trend — a small number of impressions appeared earlier, followed by a long period of zero]
[Figure 12: Baidu search impression trend — a small number of impressions appeared earlier, followed by a long period of zero]

The index count was clearly increasing, yet there were almost no search impressions. So, I personally opened Baidu and searched for “go 语言之旅”.

The first page showed encyclopedia entries, AI summaries, and other content. I continued to scroll through the pages, and did not find my website in the first 20 pages. While paging through, I also encountered a large number of CSDN pages. It is truly a bit speechless that a learning website struggles to get impressions for such a highly relevant search term, while pages from content platforms appear repeatedly.

[Figure 13: Example of Baidu search results for "go 语言之旅" — my website not found]
[Figure 13: Example of Baidu search results for “go 语言之旅” — my website not found]

This also needs to be made clear: this screenshot only records one of the search pages; “not found in the first 20 pages” is my own observation from manually paging through the results, and is not directly proven by a single image.

I cannot assert based on this single check that Baidu is intentionally suppressing independent websites, much less claim that my site is absent for all search terms. However, looking at the actual results, an increase in index count and an improvement in search visibility are not the same thing, and this comparison makes that especially obvious.

4. Looking at the three search engines together

Traffic statistics rangeLast 3 monthsLast 3 monthsAugust 27 — October 26, PC search

It must be emphasized: this is still not a comparison using completely identical statistical criteria. The screenshots for Bing and Google selected the “last 3 months,” while the latest Baidu screenshot is from August 27 to October 26, a period of about two months, and specifically selected PC search. The indexing statistical methods of the three engines may not be completely identical either. Therefore, these numbers cannot be used for rigorous cross-search-engine traffic share calculations.

But for my actual review this time, the direction of the gap is intuitive enough: both Bing and Google cited the website in their AI overviews and displayed it on the first page of regular search results, with the main difference reflected in the number of search impressions and clicks; Baidu, on the other hand, has a seemingly decent index count, but the site was not found within the first 20 pages of search results for this key keyword.

5. What’s next?

Seeing Baidu’s data, I am indeed somewhat disappointed. However, I do not plan to drastically alter the site’s structure just for this set of results, nor will I try to cater to a specific search engine based purely on speculation.

Currently, the site still requires content creation, Chinese translation, quality checks, and page improvements. These tasks can directly improve the reading and learning experience for visitors, so they remain a higher priority. As for search performance, I will continue to monitor the sitemap, index changes, search impressions, and actual clicks, observing them separately rather than equating “being indexed” directly with “gaining traffic.”

If Baidu’s search impressions show significant changes later, I can look back at this record to more easily determine whether there has been a genuine improvement.

In closing

This comparison made me more convinced of one thing:

A page being indexed does not mean it can be found in searches; and being found in searches does not necessarily mean it will be clicked.

For the current “A Tour of Go” website, both Bing and Google have achieved “AI overview citation + first page regular search appearance”. Among them, Bing brought more impressions and clicks; Google, while having less traffic, can also be found on the first page. In contrast, Baidu’s search visibility lags far behind.

As for why Baidu has indexed 84 pages but my site is still hard to find for a relevant search term like “go 语言之旅”, I currently have no evidence to provide a clear answer.

For now, I will just record the facts and continue to focus on improving the site itself. When I look at the data next time, I hope to see some changes.
